Dave Shive is a 1968 graduate of Washington Bible College, a 1972 graduate of Capital Bible Seminary with a Th.M. in New Testament Studies, and a 1994 graduate of Baltimore Hebrew University where he received an M.A. in Biblical Literature. Dave also pursued doctoral studies at Baltimore Hebrew University.
Dave has spent the past 41 years in full-time ministry as a pastor, Christian school director, college professor, and missions mobilizer. He served from 1995-2009 as Professor of Bible and Theology at Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD, and taught as an adjunct professor at the same institution from 2009-2011.
Dave serves with the US Center for World Mission (Pasadena, CA) as a missions mobilizer for the northeast region (Virginia through Maine). In this ministry, Dave, and his colleague, Joe Steinitz, have a passion to see churches in the 13 northeastern states of the US mobilized with a vision to harness all of their resources in the pursuit of God’s mission. Dave’s personal passion is to teach and preach to challenge believers to see God as a missionary God whose grand vision is to acquire worshippers from the nations to praise his Son throughout eternity. Once understood, this insight can enable believers to have a greater passion for how God is working in their lives through adversity and suffering to enhance their usefulness for him.
In his speaking and writing ministry, Dave focuses on the themes of inductive Bible study, missions, prayer, the importance of affliction in developing believers into more useful servants of the Lord. Because of Dave’s wide network of contacts, he has many opportunities to preach in churches and speak at retreats, seminars, and conferences.
A critical element of Dave’s ministry is teaching in Perspectives classes. This program has been instrumental in reorienting the thinking of many Christians to have greater accuracy and clarity as to the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic perspectives on world missions. He teaches Perspectives classes each fall and spring at a variety of locations, and is a regular seminar leader at regional missions conferences.
Dave is the author of Night Shift, released in April 2001 and now in its second printing. Night Shift is an easily understood and thoroughly biblical explanation of how God uses affliction to prepare His children for greater usefulness to Him. He has also had an article titled You’ve Got to Fear Somebody published in the July/August 2002 Issue 130 of Discipleship Journal. He has been featured in Power for Living. Released in July 2008), Giving Ourselves to Prayer contains a chapter on prayer written by Dave.
